About the Place

Ox Pasture is a project based on a restaurant incubator model created to give young, upcoming chefs a chance to present their food and hospitality by providing them with a restaurant space, beautiful interior design and state of the art kitchen facility so that they can focus on the food first.

Ox Pasture was conceived of by David Leuschen, a fourth generation Montanan, and his wife Alexia Kondylis Leuschen, an interior designer, who dreamed of having a restaurant that would re-invigorate the Main Street and focus on the produce and foods of the region.

The idea became a reality when the two met Chris Lockhart and his wife Gena Burghoff. Chef Lockhart was already a well respected chef with a great following and Gena was his well known General Manager, loved for her hospitality, excellent team and care for her guests. Chris and Gena were considering moving to a bigger city after having run a few places locally but the timing was perfect and the concept for Ox Pasture sprung to life. Now, much like a gallery space, Ox Pasture presents the talents of Chris Lockhart.

Now the percolating heart of Red Lodge’s artisan food scene, at Ox Pasture, the world class beef raised locally and usually transported thousands of miles away for sale can now be served locally. Chris works directly with the local farmers and ranchers to obtain the freshest and most seasonally appropriate ingredient in which he bases his menu. The menu changes frequently because the foods grown locally and produced to the level of quality Chris seeks are only available in limited quantities and in their season.
